Dave Porter's return to Oak Hall should mean peace at last, but the school is still crowded with rivalry, mischief, and danger. At the heart of the story is Dave's long-awaited reunion with the father and sister he once feared lost forever, a deeply emotional homecoming that only sharpens the challenges waiting for him back at school. As Dave settles into his restored family life, he remains the admired leader of his classmates, even while jealous enemies like Nat Poole, Nick Jasniff, and the scheming Link Merwell stir up trouble. From comic pranks aimed at the hated teacher Job Haskers to tense confrontations over a false ghost scare and a reckless shooting at Marcy's farm, the novel blends schoolboy humor with mystery, sports, and suspense. Dave and his friends also face fresh complications when Laura's innocent acquaintance with Merwell threatens to entangle her in his schemes. Filled with athletic contests, secret plots, and loyal friendship, this lively school adventure follows Dave as he protects his honor, his classmates, and the family he has only just found.
