A Modest Proposal – by Jonathan Swift

What if the solution to poverty was so “practical” it shocked the world?

In this brilliantly biting satirical essay, Jonathan Swift delivers one of the most daring and unforgettable critiques of social injustice ever written. Disguised as a rational economic proposal, A Modest Proposal exposes the cruelty, hypocrisy, and indifference of 18th-century policies toward the poor.

Sharp, ironic, and darkly humorous, this short classic remains powerfully relevant today. Swift’s fearless use of satire forces readers—and listeners—to confront uncomfortable truths about inequality, power, and moral responsibility.

A timeless masterpiece of political satire that continues to provoke thought, debate, and reflection nearly three centuries later.
