Description & Overview

Hunter, PJ, and Peggy happen to meet at the old imperial hotel in the heart of downtown phenom Penh circa 1975. It is the height of luxury in an Old colonial City. Beautiful French architecture abounds wonderful food beautiful people. It's a Non-Stop party when you need to get away from Vietnam and covering the hell that is happening there in the aftermath of the Vietnam war but things in Old phenom Penh and Cambodia at Large soon take a turn for the worse. No longer are the heady days of caviar and escargot in the jungles and planes surrounding that beautiful Old Town. No longer a quick trips up until now so easily done. Hunter a new kind of journalist who calls himself Gonzo and PJ, also a keen observer of the human condition, and Peggy of the Old guard at the New York times find themselves on an adventure beyond imagining through the hellish world that America has wrought on idyllic Southeast Asia following the fall of the French colonial structures put in over the past two centuries. History has caught up with these two people from one side of the fence and p************* wearing Peggy from the other trapped in this world where all they can do is write about it in their three inimicable styles told in traditional pros and a pistolary newspaper and magazine articles that appear in rolling Stone The New Yorker and the New York times among others. Tells the tale of the unexpected consequences of American intervention in foreign affairs and how nothing following World war II good has ever come of American meddling. It is satire it is biting and it is cruel and it's coldness and hilarious in its absurd grandeur. The middle 70s were America at its most decadent. Drug culture had a script on everything from writing newspaper and magazine articles to sex and drugs and the exportation of the new American imperialism fomented by the me generation just before boiling over into the Reagan era. It's a holiday in Cambodia. It's zendo and the art of genocide.
