At 3:17 a.m., Bivon Carter wakes inside his own body—but can no longer control it.

After moving into apartment 4C, he begins experiencing episodes of sleep paralysis unlike anything he has known before. The corner of his mattress sinks beneath an invisible weight. A child’s breathing appears on recordings made in an empty room. Marks resembling the teeth of a lock begin forming beneath his skin.

His search for answers leads him to Iris Whitlock, a nine-year-old girl who died in the apartment in 1987, trapped behind a door her father had made impossible to open. But Iris is not the only presence bound to the room—or to the minute of her death. Something older has learned to use her face, her voice, and the narrow interval between waking and movement.

As the hour of 3:17 draws closer each night, Bivon must discover what the entity wants before his body becomes its final doorway.

The Body Without an Owner is a dark supernatural horror story about sleep paralysis, guilt, childhood trauma, and the terrifying possibility that some doors open from inside the human body.
