Arthur has spent decades following the same morning routine.

The same newspaper.

The same cup of coffee.

The same chair by the window of The Open Book bookstore.

Most people barely notice him.

Then one day, Cara places a book in his hands.

"I wondered if I'd live long enough," he says.

As Arthur begins reading, he discovers a story that stretches across decades, connecting him to a dream he never fully understood, a woman named Martha who trusted what she could not explain, and a promise made long ago.

Warm, hopeful, and quietly magical, The One Who Stayed is a story about ordinary lives, unexpected connections, and the ways small acts of kindness ripple through generations.
