Held in the Fire
A Novel by Samantha VanGundy

Jesse learned long ago that survival means staying quiet… and never expecting rescue.

Working nights in a roadside diner, bruised and forgotten, he's counting down the hours until he disappears for good. Then Gray walks through the door — a man built for war, carrying scars of his own and eyes that see far too much.

Gray wasn't looking to save anyone.
But when he uncovers a trafficking network hiding in plain sight, Jesse becomes more than a witness — he becomes a target.

Dragged into a fight he never asked for, Jesse must decide who he wants to be: the boy who ran… or the man who fights back.

As danger closes in and the past refuses to stay buried, Gray and Jesse are forced to trust each other in ways neither expected. Because this time, survival isn't enough.

This time, they're burning the system down.

Held in the Fire is a gripping, emotional suspense novel about survival, found strength, and the power of choosing to stand — even when everything hurts.
