The past won't stay buried.

Now fugitives, Briar and Marcus are hiding in the Zero-Zone—the lawless territory outside the city domes where genetic policing doesn't apply. Their love deepens as they use their combined skills to help others sentenced by the unjust system.

Their sanctuary is compromised when a wealthy D.C. mogul offers them a deal: expose a conspiracy involving illegal genetic modification clinics in the Zero-Zone in exchange for a full pardon for Briar.

They uncover a shocking plot: the clinics aren't modifying DNA; they are selling clean DNA samples harvested from people forced into indentured servitude. Briar and Marcus must navigate a dangerous black market of human life, all while a relentless genetic tracker—the man who originally mentored Marcus—hunts them down, forcing them to confront the sins of their shared past.
