The Architecture of Deletion is a German neo-noir thriller set in Berlin, seventeen years after the "große Streichung" (great deletion), a systemic effort to erase the city's memory and accountability. The unnamed protagonist, a man paralyzed by willful neglect and the refuge of bureaucratic formalität, begins his journey stuck in a personal and political stasis. He is haunted by the city's existential "hum"—the silence over a corpse in the Havel—and his own failure to tell a woman named Anne the significance of 27 Jahre of missing data tied to Dokument A-01-457.3RZ.

Abandoning theory, he descends into a sub-level beneath the Bezirksamt, where he discovers the document is not missing data, but the name of a physical location: Sektion. Sperrgebiet.—a twenty-seven-year lockdown zone. This is the city's "named wound." His personal act of honesty with Anne sparks a political imperative. She reveals the Compendium schematic, showing the authorities are planning the next deletion (the Exzision Plan Beta) at the municipal library's archives in 72 hours to destroy the last repository of the people’s un-curated memory. The protagonist sheds his former life and begins to build a "counter-architecture" to protect the city's true corpus vit vires—the collective, vital truth.
