She spent years trying to understand why she never seemed to belong. The answer would require her to question everything she thought she knew about herself.
At five years old, Tamara watched her father collapse in front of her. In an instant, the safety she had known disappeared, dividing her childhood into a before and an after.
In the years that followed, she searched for the love, acceptance, and belonging she desperately wanted—sometimes in places that left her even more lost.
Through relationships, motherhood, mistakes, heartbreak, and the complicated bonds of family, one question quietly followed her:
Why have I always felt like I don't belong?
Finding the answer would mean looking honestly at her past, confronting the patterns she had carried with her, and discovering that healing wasn't about convincing everyone else to understand her.
It was about finally understanding herself.
Misunderstood: Through the Storm into the Rainbow is a raw memoir about identity, belonging, family, survival, and what can happen when you stop searching for yourself in other people's versions of who you are.
Sometimes breaking free isn't about leaving your past behind.
It's about realizing it no longer gets to tell you who you are.
