June and Jennifer Gibbons were identical twins born in Wales who made a solemn pact as children: they would speak to no one but each other. They developed a secret language, mirrored each other's movements, and created a rich, disturbing fantasy world in their diaries. But their isolation turned toxic. "The Silent Pact" investigates the strange case of the "Silent Twins."

As they grew older, their bond became a trap. They committed petty crimes just to get a reaction from the world, leading to their indefinite incarceration in Broadmoor high-security psychiatric hospital. There, they decided that one of them had to die so the other could live a normal life.

This book explores the psychology of their intense "folie ? deux" (shared psychosis). It culminates in the chilling mystery of Jennifer's sudden death moments after their release—a death she had predicted in her diary as a necessary sacrifice. It is a haunting look at the destructive power of love when it becomes an obsession.
