The Hunger Beneath Le Morne

When Laila returns to Mauritius for her grandmother's funeral, she expects to confront old grief and family secrets—not an ancient hunger waking beneath the island's skin. Haunted by visions of the drowned and marked by a spiral that burns on her palm, she discovers she is the heir to a covenant centuries old: to carry the memory of the forgotten, or watch the island consume itself from within. As the mountain breathes and the sea remembers, Laila must choose what kind of keeper she will become—and whether love can truly hold what grief cannot release.
