In 1707 Strasbourg, a torn register leaf arrives under fog and secrecy—its wax mark twisted with a familiar tick.

The page doesn't belong to the city's ledgers. It comes from the Munster Valley, where rumors travel faster than couriers and superstition makes a convenient curtain for men who prefer their crimes unrecorded.

When an official parish register is found broken—folios missing, numbers jumping, entries rewritten—two investigators follow the paper trail into a world where a name can be erased as easily as ink. Each contradiction points to the same conclusion: someone has been using records to move bodies, fortunes, and identities across the border…and killing anyone who might restore the truth.

To survive, they must keep their own chain of evidence, outmaneuver officials who control access, and uncover the hand behind the altered pages—before the register is burned and the next name is removed.

The Broken Register is Book 2 of the Borderland Archives Mysteries—an atmospheric historical whodunit of seals, secrets, and border intrigue, with a tasteful slow-burn romantic thread.
