Thirteen-year-old Blaine never expected to become a parent overnight. But when a sudden plague wipes out every adult in their tiny village, he's all his little sister Peggy has left. Just as their world begins to crumble, Peggy rescues a massive, battle goat. A KampfZiegen she cheerfully names Fluffy.

Survival becomes even more complicated when enigmatic Finnish fae step out of legend and into their lives. Haltia are hunting for Peggy, believing she is destined to become the next Sampo, a living conduit for ancient magick. With danger closing in, Blaine and Peggy flee into the wilderness beyond their empty town, but the wilds hold terrors of their own. Stalked by a colossal bear, shadowed by a wolf, starving and pursued by fae whose motives are their own. Blaine must face forces older and darker than anything he's ever imagined. To protect his sister, he must confront ancient magick, fickle allies, monstrous threats-and the fear that he is not enough.

Hope is fragile in a broken world...But sometimes it rides on the back of a battle goat.
