Description & Overview
The history of Soviet transport is not only about buses, trams, and passenger trolleybuses. A special place in it belongs to cargo trolleybuses, or trolleyvozy—unusual vehicles that combined the capabilities of a truck with the advantages of electric traction. They were used for freight delivery, industrial servicing, and intracity transportation, particularly in the 1960s–1980s.
This book is dedicated to the history of their creation, development, and operation in the Soviet Union: from the first experimental vehicles of the late 1930s to the mass-produced KTG and other specialized trolleybuses. Behind each model lie not only technical solutions but also the history of the factories, cities, and people who created and operated this extraordinary technology.
Today, most Soviet freight trolleybuses are a thing of the past. However, surviving vehicles and archival photographs offer a glimpse into an era when freight could move through city streets almost silently, powered directly by the overhead wire.
