For seventeen years, Caroline Evans has been David Evans's wife.
She has also slowly become invisible.
David provides everything money can buy.
The London townhouse.
The holidays.
The cars.
The cards Caroline rarely uses.
What he no longer gives her is time.
Caroline used to paint.
David once loved watching her work.
Then children came.
His company grew.
Her canvases disappeared into storage.
David never noticed.
Then Caroline meets Peter Collins at a charity auction.
Peter notices the painting hanging near the back of the room.
He also notices Caroline's signature at the bottom.
He asks why she stopped.
Nobody has asked her that in fifteen years.
One conversation becomes an invitation to exhibit her work.
Then another.
Caroline starts painting again.
She starts laughing again.
For the first time in years, David looks up from his phone and sees his wife.
He also sees Peter looking at her.
Suddenly David wants dinners.
Weekends.
Conversation.
Caroline does not find it romantic.
She finds it insulting.
Why did another man's interest have to remind her husband that she was interesting?
So when David demands that she stop seeing Peter, Caroline does something he never expected.
She asks David to leave.
Now their children are caught between them.
Peter refuses to pressure her.
And David must learn that jealousy is not the same as love.
If he wants his wife back, he must fall in love with the woman she is becoming—even if that woman decides she no longer wants him.
