Across four hundred miles of broken shale, blinding alkali flats, and rotting peat bogs, thirty walkers are wired to live telemetry grids. The rules permit no real meals—only corporate-engineered chemical pastes and sealed ration bricks. Speed means nothing; survival depends entirely on preserving internal biology under the unblinking gaze of surveillance drones.

At sixty-three, Minsoo carries forty years of drywall dust in his lungs and chronic aches in his spine. Contracted by a multinational conglomerate to showcase experimental nutrition, he understands what boardroom algorithms ignore: human organs cannot be managed like balance sheets. When over-conditioned sprinters collapse from metabolic shock and kidneys seize under industrial sodium loads, survival becomes a matter of cold calculation, clandestine chemistry, and stubborn endurance.

As competitors break under corporate mandates, unscripted alliances form in the blind spots of tracking cameras. A heavy-set woman and an agile partner counterbalance mass and temperature. An ordinary woman drags a towering casualty through the furnace heat. Flanked by walkers discarded by the betting pools, Minsoo navigates corporate sabotage and lethal terrain toward an impenetrable bedrock shelter that promises permanent autonomy from corporate monitoring.
