Description & Overview

At first, the ratings made life easier.

Banks could recognise reliable customers. Landlords could identify dependable tenants. Employers could verify applicants in seconds. Travellers with trusted profiles moved through airports, hotels and rental services with less friction. Fraud fell, paperwork disappeared and people once excluded by traditional credit systems gained new ways to prove themselves.

Then the ratings began to travel.

Employment stability influenced housing. Financial history affected opportunity. Privacy created uncertainty. A bad year could follow someone for years, while a strong score opened doors before an application had even been made.

There was no dictator ordering the transformation and no single law creating a social ranking system. Instead, governments, businesses and ordinary citizens repeatedly chose solutions that were faster, safer, cheaper and seemingly fairer.

Eventually, housing, work, travel and opportunity remained theoretically open to everyone.

The terms were simply better for some.

The Score Above Your Name is a speculative future history of how a society built around convenience and risk prediction gradually turns reputation into infrastructure and how a number that was never supposed to define a person comes to determine how much of the world is practically available to them.
