Around the World in Eighty Days follows Phileas Fogg, a wealthy, disciplined, and remarkably punctual English gentleman who accepts an extraordinary wager that he can travel around the world in eighty days. Accompanied by his newly hired French valet, Passepartout, Fogg sets out from London on a journey that takes him across continents by train, steamship, and other means of transportation.

What begins as a carefully calculated itinerary soon becomes an unpredictable adventure. Delays, accidents, unfamiliar customs, difficult terrain, and unexpected dangers repeatedly threaten Fogg’s schedule. Along the way, he rescues Aouda, a young Indian woman who becomes an important companion on the journey, while Detective Fix pursues Fogg under the mistaken belief that he is a bank robber.

The novel combines travel, suspense, humor, romance, and adventure while celebrating ingenuity, determination, and the rapidly changing possibilities of global transportation. Fogg’s seemingly emotionless precision contrasts with Passepartout’s lively personality, creating one of the story’s most memorable partnerships. As the travelers race against time, each stage of the journey brings new challenges and discoveries, leading to a clever and satisfying conclusion.
