Description & Overview

Before You Seek Power is a practical guide for anyone considering a future in British politics — and for anyone who wants to understand what public life demands from the person behind the role.

Most books about politics begin with elections, campaigns, messaging or government. This one begins earlier, with a more difficult question:

Are you personally ready for what politics may ask of you?

Across twenty chapters, Giani Boldeanu explores the human side of political life before the title, the office and the public status arrive. The book examines motivation, character, family impact, public exposure, party life, loyalty, obedience, power, defeat, competence, decision-making and the people a politician allows close enough to influence judgement.

It asks questions aspiring politicians often postpone until they are already inside the system: Why do you really want to enter politics? What price are you prepared to pay? What happens when your life becomes public? How do you respond when you are criticised, humiliated or betrayed? How do political parties actually function beyond their formal rules? What should make you say no? Can you lose without losing yourself? Do you understand what the office you seek can actually do? Who around you is allowed to tell you that you are wrong?

The book combines political realism with practical frameworks, composite scenarios, reflective questions and preparation tools. It also looks at the realities of British politics, including the distinction between Parliament and Government, the limits of political office, party structures, local and devolved institutions, candidate selection and the difference between making a decision and actually delivering a result.

At the centre of the book is a simple principle: desire is not readiness.

Readiness is not perfection. It means distinguishing hope from evidence, understanding your motives, recognising your vulnerabilities, knowing your boundaries, preparing the people who will share the cost of your decision and developing enough competence to make responsible choices under pressure.

The final section leads the reader towards three possible verdicts: Enter, Prepare First or Do Not Enter. None is treated as failure. The purpose is not to push the reader towards politics, but to help them make a more informed decision before ambition becomes responsibility.

The book also includes practical tools for assessing political motivation, personal cost, public exposure, organisational reality, leadership readiness and decision-making, together with a 90-day preparation framework.

About the author

Giani Boldeanu is a UK-based mental performance coach and consultant with a professional background spanning television, military service, human performance and political consulting. He began working in television at the age of fifteen, later spent approximately seven years in the military, including training in demanding specialisations such as airborne operations, reconnaissance and military communications, and later worked at senior command level as an assistant to generals.

For more than seventeen years, his work in mental performance has brought him alongside athletes, leaders, business professionals and people involved in politics, with a focus on behaviour under pressure, decision-making, communication, discipline and leadership.

Before You Seek Power is written for aspiring politicians, political candidates, party members, advisers, campaigners and readers interested in leadership, public responsibility and the human realities of power.

Before asking for power, know why you want it, what you will not do with it, and who you intend to be when you no longer possess it.
