Innocence meets darkness. A Mormon boy. A brothel in the desert. A fourteen-year-old girl with an impossible dream. When divine forces collide with human desperation, can love survive where hope has died?

Shannon is seventeen, a trainee salesman traveling a lonely Nevada highway with a spiritually bankrupt mentor who sees only profit in human suffering. When a routine sales call brings them both to Mona’s Playhouse—a legal brothel in the desolate desert—he meets Esmé, a remarkably intelligent fourteen-year-old girl trapped in her grandmother’s world of exploitation and moral compromise. As Shannon recognizes a kindred spirit in Esmé’s spiritual depth and literary dreams, a mysterious figure begins following them through the desert. When violence erupts at the brothel and supernatural forces manifest in the nearby ghost town of Gold Dust, Shannon must choose between the safety of his ordinary life and a promise that could save them both. But with his mentor spiraling into madness and celestial judgment descending on the Nevada wasteland, will Shannon’s faith be enough to protect the girl who has awakened his heart—or will the darkness consume them all?

Gold Dust is a love story exploring Mormon theology and redemption. If you crave spiritually complex narratives, morally challenging scenarios, and a transformative love story set against the stark beauty of the American West, then you’ll be captivated by Shannon’s allegorical masterpiece.
