The Bridge of Paper Lanterns

Every summer, the Lantern Festival turns the quiet riverside town into a glowing dreamscape of drifting light. For Lena Hart, it used to be the night she loved most—until last year's heartbreak left her avoiding anything that felt magical, unpredictable, or capable of stirring old wounds. But some bridges are meant to be crossed again. On the evening of the festival, Lena steps onto the bridge of paper lanterns, hoping only to make it across without memories catching up to her. Instead, she collides with Kai Mercer, a traveler with a camera, a gentle smile, and a story he keeps tucked carefully out of sight. Their meeting is awkward, unexpected… and impossible to forget. As lanterns float across the water and music drifts through the warm night air, Lena and Kai find themselves drawn together by quiet conversations, shared vulnerability, and a spark that feels both fragile and fated. Kai sees beauty everywhere—especially in Lena, even when she struggles to see it herself. But when the truth behind Kai's visit surfaces, Lena must choose between retreating into the safety she's built… or trusting the bridge that brought him to her. A tender, luminous short romance about healing, serendipity, and the kind of love that glows softly even in the darkest corners.
