The Last Garden of Montagne Ory

A forbidden love. A divided island. A tree that remembers everything.

Mauritius, 1923. A young woman arrives on the island carrying nothing but a brass lota, a few possessions, and a mango seed from home. She plants it beside the wall that separates the workers' quarters from the great house—a wall that has stood for generations, dividing the Franco-Mauritian plantation owners from the labourers who built the estate with their hands.

Decades later, the tree has grown into a towering symbol of survival. Devika, granddaughter of the woman who planted the seed, and Antoine, heir to the plantation, forge a friendship across the divide that becomes a forbidden love. When a devastating cyclone shatters the estate and exposes the fractures beneath its surface, they are torn apart by a family's desperate need to preserve its legacy.

But the tree remembers what the de Laborde family has tried to erase—a promise made to the workers, a debt that was never paid, a truth that could destroy everything.
