In the ancient necropolis of Pantalica, a woman is found dead inside a three-thousand-year-old tomb.
She is dressed in a wedding gown. Her body has been carefully arranged, her hands composed, and her head crowned with wildflowers. Around her lie red and white anemones, asphodels, and carefully tied broom blossoms.
Nothing about the scene is accidental.
Commissario Alice Scuderi is called to investigate, and soon discovers that the murder may be connected to a mystery buried decades earlier. In the nearby town of Ferla, rumors lead her to the C? ravaja family and to an old disappearance: a young woman named Speranza vanished shortly before her wedding, apparently leaving Sicily for Argentina.
But there is another Speranza.
She now lives at the family estate, where weddings are celebrated under the name Le Nozze di Primavera — The Spring Wedding.
As Alice digs deeper, forensic evidence, an old family photograph, a forgotten inheritance, and the testimony of an elderly woman with a fractured memory begin to reveal a disturbing pattern. The flowers covering the dead woman are not simply a macabre decoration. They reproduce the imagery of an ancient fresco connected to a secret brotherhood and to a history of power, identity, and carefully concealed crimes.
And somewhere in the shadows, someone has been making sure that the past remains buried.
With every answer Alice uncovers, another question emerges: Who is the real Speranza?
Set among the ancient tombs, rivers, villages, and landscapes of southeastern Sicily, The Spring Bride is a atmospheric mystery of murder, identity, art, family secrets, and long-buried truths.
