Here is a timeless tale of conquest and mystery, retold for a new generation. The Syriac Alexander Romance is one of the most beloved and influential works of the ancient Christian East, a legendary account of Alexander the Great as a chosen servant of God. In these pages, Alexander defeats the Persian Empire, founds Alexandria, and journeys to the ends of the earth in search of the Water of Life. He builds a great wall to imprison the fearsome nations of Gog and Magog, corresponds with the wise Brahmans of India, and receives visions of the world's end. Blending adventure, wisdom, and apocalyptic wonder, this classic has inspired readers for over a thousand years. This modern-English edition renders the ancient Syriac text in clear, inviting prose, faithful to its meaning and spirit. Part of The World Scriptures Library.
