Before the Bible was gathered into a single familiar story, the churches of the Syriac East told the whole sacred history — from the first light of Creation to the dawn of the Resurrection — as one continuous, wondrous narrative. The Cave of Treasures, a beloved classic of early Christianity long attributed to Saint Ephrem, takes its name from the mountain cave where the exiled Adam and Eve kept watch, and where gold, frankincense, and myrrh were laid up for a King yet to be born. Here are the fall of the rebel angel, the making of Adam from the earth, the generations of the just before the Flood, and the long line of patriarchs, prophets, and kings — all journeying toward the star of Bethlehem. This new edition renders the ancient text in clear, reverent, present-day English, faithful to its meaning and spirit, inviting modern readers to rediscover a hidden treasure of the Christian tradition.
