Cast out of Eden, Adam and Eve walk into a wilderness of grief, hunger, and dust. The Ethiopic Book of Adam and Eve, long treasured by Ethiopian and Coptic Christians and often called the Conflict of Adam and Eve with Satan, opens the silence left by Genesis like a hidden door. Here the first family weeps at the garden's gate, shelters in the Cave of Treasures, endures the serpent's repeated assaults, stands fasting in cold rivers, and raises children whose choices echo through every generation. Written in the anonymous, collective voice of ancient tradition, the story preaches through every scene: sin brings sorrow, repentance restores, and all history bends toward a coming Redeemer. Faithfully rendered in clear, inviting modern English, this edition preserves the wonder, strangeness, and devotion of the original while welcoming today's readers to experience it as an ancient treasure of the spirit, read aloud, pondered, and passed on.
