Here is one of the oldest and most mysterious voices of the Celtic world, made clear and inviting for today's readers. The Battle of the Trees and the Poems of Taliesin gathers the great poems of the Book of Taliesin in faithful, present-day English: the enchanted forest of Cad Goddeu, where Gwydion raises a living army of trees; the shadowy voyage of the Spoils of Annwn; the proud praise-songs and sorrowful elegies for Urien of Rheged; and the wild prophetic and mystical songs of a bard who claimed to have been present at the beginning of the world. This edition keeps the strangeness and beauty of the original while opening its meaning to the general reader, with introductions, notes, and a glossary. It is an invitation to encounter a timeless spiritual and literary classic as it was meant to be heard: as living poetry. Part of The World Scriptures Library.
