The Voyage of Bran is one of the most haunting stories to come down to us from early Ireland. Bran son of Febal hears music so beautiful it lulls him to sleep, and wakes to find a silver branch in blossom from the Otherworld. A mysterious woman sings of a land beyond the sea where there is no sickness, no sorrow, and no death — and Bran, with his companions, must go and see it for himself. On the voyage they meet the sea-god Manannán mac Lir, who speaks of the hidden nature of the ocean and of a future age yet to come. They reach the Land of Women, where a year passes like a single day, and then they make the journey home to an Ireland that has forgotten them. This faithful Modern Reader's Edition brings the ancient Immram Brain to today's readers in clear, flowing English, preserving the beauty and mystery of the original.
