Some doors are shut for a reason. Some secrets refuse to stay buried.
It is April 1947. Fourteen-year-old Beatrice Brooks—BB to everyone who matters—arrives at the sprawling, ivy-clad Lewis Hotel in Sussex armed with a notebook full of questions and a love for ghost stories. But the old Jacobean estate holds far more than creaking floorboards and fading family portraits. When the grandfather clock in her room strikes midnight, BB encounters James Lewis, a nine-year-old boy who died in 1938 and has been trapped in the corridors ever since. He isn't alone: the ghost of Annie O’Brien, a clever young wartime operative, still lingers in the shadows of the requisitioned west wing where secret agents once trained. Before she met a tragic end, Annie uncovered a dangerous conspiracy and hid the proof in ciphers only a sharp mind can unravel. But as BB and her mother begin piecing together the code, a sinister guest from Annie’s past closes in, desperate to ensure the truth stays silenced forever. With courage, quick wits, and the help of allies both living and spectral, BB must race against time to expose the traitor before history repeats itself. Haunting of The Lewis Hotel is an atmospheric post-war mystery filled with hidden ciphers, wartime secrets, and a haunting friendship that reaches across time.
