This ancient prayer, attributed to King Manasseh of Judah, is one of the most moving expressions of repentance in sacred literature. Though brief, it captures the full arc of the penitent's journey: from awe at God's majesty, through honest confession of sin, to a humble plea for mercy and a vow of lifelong praise. Written in a time when Manasseh was remembered as a king who turned from idolatry to seek God's forgiveness, the prayer has inspired worshippers for over two thousand years. This modern-English edition renders the text in warm, accessible language while staying faithful to its original meaning and spirit. Whether used for personal devotion, group study, or liturgical reflection, this edition invites readers to encounter a timeless voice of humility and hope. Part of The Sacred Wisdom Library.
