Flavius Josephus set out to tell the whole story of his people — from the first days of creation to the brink of the war that would destroy Jerusalem — for readers who knew nothing of Jewish history. The Antiquities of the Jews is a sweeping chronicle of patriarchs and prophets, kings and priests, exiles and returns, written in the grand style of Greek and Roman history. This modern edition renders Josephus's classic narrative in clear, inviting English, faithful to the meaning and spirit of the original. Here are Abraham's journey, Moses and the Exodus, the building of the Temple, the voices of the prophets, the Maccabean revolt, and the shadow of Rome — told as one continuous story by a man who lived through its final chapter. An introduction, glossary, and reading guide help today's reader enter this timeless work with ease. Part of The Sacred Wisdom Library.
