Written at the dawn of the sixth century by a reluctant pope who longed only for the quiet of the monastery, The Pastoral Rule became the most trusted guide to spiritual leadership in the Western world for over a thousand years. Gregory the Great's gentle, practical wisdom — that those who guide others must first know their own hearts, and that one truth must be spoken in many voices to reach each soul — speaks as directly to parents, mentors, and leaders today as it did to bishops of old. This faithful modern-English edition renders Gregory's classic in clear, inviting prose while preserving its warmth and depth. Whether you are a pastor, a teacher, or simply a seeker after wisdom, you will find here a timeless companion for the care of souls — including your own. Part of The Sacred Wisdom Library.
