For eight hundred years, The Memorial of the Saints has been one of the most beloved books of the Islamic world — a gathering of the lives, words, and wonders of the great Sufi saints, from the companions of the Prophet to the ecstatics and teachers of Baghdad. In these pages, Fariduddin Attar, the great Persian poet of Nishapur, brings to life men and women who gave away kingdoms, wept for decades over a single verse, and spoke of God with an intimacy that still astonishes. Here is Rabia's radiant love, Bayazid's dizzying nearness, Junayd's sober wisdom, and Hallaj's costly passion. This modern-English edition renders Attar's classic in clear, present-day language while remaining faithful to its meaning and spirit. An introduction, glossary, and reading guide open the way for today's readers. Part of The Sacred Wisdom Library.
