In a small town in Portugal, a group of young people struggle to find their place in the world while holding on to dreams that sometimes seem impossibly far away.

William dreams of becoming an author. Trapped in an unhappy home with a mother who constantly bullies and belittles him, he battles depression and suicidal thoughts while longing to return to London, the city of his birth. His life seems destined to remain unchanged—until Laura enters it.

Laura is fighting battles of her own. Vicious rumours have damaged her reputation and threatened to destroy the life she has tried to build. Like William, she dreams of becoming an author, and the two discover in each other a friendship born from shared hopes, disappointments and loneliness.

But for William, friendship is not enough. As he falls deeply in love with Laura, he begins fighting for the chance to win her heart. Yet unseen enemies and the jealousy of others threaten to tear them apart.
