It's a warm summer night on the Lower East Side in NYC, and for Maya and her little Yorkie, Apple, this is their favorite time of day. The city never really sleeps, and neither does their nightly ritual — the same streets, the same corners, the same small rituals that make up their evening walk.

There's a fire hydrant that needs checking, a favorite bench that Apple always sniffs underneath first (an old habit older than she is), and an old man from the neighborhood who waves the same quiet wave every night. There's the diner on the corner, glowing and busy, and the nightclub across the way, loud with music and laughter. A bubble man drifts by without ever stopping to talk. And tonight, someone new — a boy with a napkin and a pencil — stops to ask if he can draw Apple.

By the time they head home, Apple has a portrait of her own pinned proudly to the wall, and a whole night of city life to dream about.

A quiet, warm story about routine, noticing the small things, and the magic hiding in an ordinary night. Book Four in the Apple Downtown Dog series is perfect for bedtime — a gentle way to wind down after a busy day, for readers ages 4–8, dog lovers, city kids, and anyone who loves a good nightly ritual.
