An empty envelope. A dead diva. A writer in over her head.

Thirty-year-old crime novelist Hester Maccaby prefers fiction to reality. From her quiet Tasmanian cottage, she plots murders from a safe distance—rarely venturing past her front gate. But when an empty envelope arrives in her mailbox, her writer's curiosity gets the better of her.

Following the clues to the close-knit community of Crayfish Cove, Hester discovers the envelope was meant to contain an invitation to an exclusive soiree. The host? A semi-famous stage actress Hester has never met. Before she can uncover the reason behind the bizarre invitation, the actress is discovered dead on the beach.

Suddenly, Hester is thrust into a real-life whodunit. To complicate matters, the handsome local police officer has an unfortunate effect on her ability to think clearly. Hester knows a killer is hiding in Crayfish Cove. If she can't crack the case, she might just be the next target on the guest list.
