Deep beneath the drooping ferns and tangled roots of a sparkling creek live the Ishkabibbles, water-loving, gnome-like creatures whose ultimate rite of passage is becoming an official Toad Rider. Riding giant, pony-sized toads across rushing waters and slippery logs is every young Ishkabibble's dream.

Every boy except Chip, that is.

While Chip wants to be a Toad Rider more than anything, he has one tiny problem: he's terrible at it. Mud-splattered, soaking wet, and tired of being laughed at, Chip is ready to give up before the big Coming-of-Age Obstacle Course even begins.

Everything changes when his wise Grandpa Digby shares a key secret: being a great rider isn't about controlling the toad, it's about listening to its rhythm. Crouch. Breathe. Push. Jump.

With determination, lots of practice, and plenty of mud, Chip begins to trust himself and his giant warty companion. But when the day of the trial arrives and the treacherous Lily-Pad Leap lies ahead, will Chip fall into the rushing waters again, or will he find his balance and leap into legend?

Chip and the Giant Toad is a heart-warming tale about patience, perseverance, and learning to ride to the beat of your own drum.
