The debt comes due at the equinox. The sea has already started collecting.

Fifty-seven days. That's what stands between the coast and a 611-year-old bill the founders signed in stolen song — and the price, read at last, is not two throats. It is the tidesong itself, out of every throat alive. Maren has spent her whole war refusing to spend people like coin. Now the only honest way out is to ask 962 free Voiced, one by one, by name, whether to give up the thing that makes them what they are.

The sea isn't waiting. Isles drown by inches, the drowned dead stand at the tide line facing west, and the Court's ghost offers Kael his mother's throne back — the legitimate one — for the price of walking away. Some wear salt-iron again by choice, betting a shut throat can't be collected from. Some would hand Maren and Kael to the water and call it mercy.

But two throats taken is a lock. Two throats freely given is a payment. And a world that chooses — that's something no god ever planned for.

The saga's conclusion: the last war, the impossible choice, and the ending six books earned — she says his name over the water in her own cracked voice, and nothing in the world answers but him.
