Ecuadorian Urban Legends: Tales of Shadow and Spirit

Across the ancient streets of Quito, the colonial plazas of Cuenca, and the humid neighborhoods of Guayaquil and Manabí, Ecuador's most haunting legends come alive in a dark and atmospheric collection of supernatural fiction.

In these stories, the boundary between the living and the dead is dangerously thin.

Francisco Cantuña makes a desperate bargain with the Devil, risking his soul to complete a sacred monument before dawn. Father Almeida discovers that his nightly escape from the convent carries a terrifying price. The mysterious Dama Tapada lures unsuspecting men through the dark streets of Guayaquil with an irresistible fragrance, only to reveal the horror hidden beneath her veil. Mariangula learns that stealing from the dead can create a debt that no living person can escape. The Headless Priest becomes an embodiment of judgment, confronting those whose pride has blinded them to the truth. And in the forests of Manabí, the seductive melody of the Tintín leads an unsuspecting woman toward a darkness far older than humanity itself.

Drawing upon Ecuadorian folklore while reimagining traditional legends through a darker supernatural lens, Ecuadorian Urban Legends: Tales of Shadow and Spirit explores temptation, guilt, pride, desire, death, punishment, and the consequences of crossing forbidden boundaries.

These are not simply stories about ghosts.

They are stories about the secrets buried beneath Ecuador's cities, the spirits that refuse to disappear, and the ancient shadows that may still be waiting in the darkness.

Every legend carries a warning.

Every shadow hides a story.

And sometimes, the most terrifying thing is discovering that the legend was never just a legend.
