In Trieste, the dead do not always stay dead.

When Nour Bishara, a genealogical and legal investigator, is hired to identify the rightful recipient of a forgotten financial instrument, she expects a difficult search through damaged records, fractured family histories, and the remnants of a vanished past.

Instead, she uncovers a mystery that stretches across Alexandria, Trieste, and generations of carefully concealed identities.

The case begins with a dead man whose estate has no claimant. Then the names begin to repeat. Documents appear to anticipate events that have not yet happened. A mysterious figure known only as le lecteur seems to be watching from the margins. And beneath the legal paperwork lies a disturbing possibility: that someone has been arranging the fate of the living and the dead for far longer than anyone should be able to.

As Nour follows the trail through archives, forgotten transactions, old betrayals, and families who have learned to survive by withholding the truth, the investigation becomes increasingly personal. Every answer opens another question. Every discovery makes the boundary between coincidence, inheritance, and design harder to trust.

Atmospheric, psychologically unsettling, and steeped in the haunted history of the Adriatic, Nobody Has Claimed the Dead of Trieste is a literary mystery about memory, identity, guilt, and the dangerous persistence of the past.
