Description & Overview

Description

Korean vocabulary is not simply a collection of words to memorize.
A large part of Korean vocabulary is built from recurring Sino-Korean elements that appear across many different words and expressions. Once you begin to see these connections, vocabulary becomes less like a list and more like a system.
Sino-Korean Vocabulary in Conversation takes this approach into real Korean communication.
Instead of presenting isolated vocabulary lists, this book begins with everyday situations and conversations. From there, it explores the words that naturally emerge from those situations, how they connect with related expressions, how new words are formed, how collocations work, and how meaning changes according to context.
A single word can open a much larger lexical network.
For example, learning 확인 is not simply a matter of remembering its meaning. Learners can also see how it connects with expressions such as 확인하다, 확인해 보다, 확인해 주다, 다시 확인하다, 재확인하다, and 확인이 필요하다. The goal is not to memorize every possible expression, but to understand how Korean vocabulary can expand.
Hanja are used as a supporting lens to make lexical structure and meaning distinctions more visible. Chinese and Japanese written forms are included when they provide useful comparative information, but they are not additional vocabulary targets. The focus throughout the book remains Korean.
The conversations cover practical situations that learners may encounter in everyday life, including making plans, making reservations, dealing with problems, using services, communicating with institutions, coordinating work, and discussing decisions and changes.
The conversations also develop across different levels of communicative complexity and speech styles, allowing learners to see how vocabulary operates in different social and communicative settings.
The central idea of the book is simple:
Do not learn the word. Learn what the word can generate.
If you can read Hangeul, you are ready to look beyond individual words and begin seeing how Korean vocabulary works as a system.
