Dave Porter and His Double sends the beloved young hero from snowy hometown errands into a widening web of danger, mistaken identity, and theft. When a puzzling letter about a shoe order hints that someone has been using Dave's name, an ordinary sleigh ride with Laura, Jessie Wadsworth, and Ben Basswood quickly becomes part of a deeper mystery tied to his past. Then a runaway team of horses nearly carries the sleigh into disaster, giving Dave another chance to show the calm courage and quick thinking that have made him a trusted friend. As the plot expands, Dave's story moves beyond schoolboy adventures into the world of a budding civil engineer in Texas, where vanished fortunes, a troublesome double, and threats from Mexican raiders raise the stakes. Meanwhile, Ward Porton and Tim Crapsey scheme through storms, false names, stolen clothing, and cut telephone lines, hoping to stay ahead of pursuit. But every setback only pushes Dave and his friends toward a fresh revelation, including the shocking theft of the Basswood miniatures and the return of a dangerous impostor.
