In this luminous tribute, J. M. Barrie captures the spirit of a beloved writer at the moment of farewell and transforms mourning into something radiant, witty, and deeply moving. Neither Dorking nor the Abbey is not a conventional elegy, but a vivid act of imagination: a celebration of genius, vitality, and the enduring presence of a great literary voice. Barrie's prose is rich with reverence and theatrical grace, conjuring a funeral procession that becomes a triumphant homecoming among the landscapes, characters, and memories that gave the departed life its meaning. With tenderness and a touch of playful grandeur, he reflects on fame, mortality, and the strange honor due to true greatness. The result is both intimate and expansive, a portrait of a man whose work lived far beyond his years. This slim, unforgettable piece is also a testament to Barrie's own gifts: his lyrical language, his emotional precision, and his ability to make grief shimmer with beauty. For readers who cherish literary tribute, Edwardian elegance, and writing that turns remembrance into art, Neither Dorking nor the Abbey offers a brief but lasting experience of wonder.
