In the heart of a magical chess kingdom, two young pawns receive an unusual map from the wise King. It shows no roads or city names—only the mysterious sign [?]8. To uncover its secret, the friends must cross the entire chessboard, where every move can change their fate and pawns can never turn back.

Along the way, they face a defiant black pawn, an overconfident knight, a dangerous bishop, and a mighty rook guarding the eighth rank. Each encounter reveals a new chess rule, but the travelers learn something even more important: courage needs wisdom, and even the smallest piece becomes stronger when friends protect one another.

The Tale of a Pawn is a richly illustrated fantasy adventure that introduces children to the basic rules and ideas of chess through story, emotion, and discovery. It is ideal for independent reading, family read-aloud time, and a child’s first journey into the world of chess.
