In this powerful tribute delivered at Hodgenville, Kentucky, Theodore Roosevelt honors Abraham Lincoln as one of the greatest figures in American history and one of the noblest men the world has known. Speaking on the hundredth anniversary of Lincoln's birth, Roosevelt paints a vivid portrait of a leader forged in hardship, tested by war, and ennobled by duty. With characteristic force and clarity, Roosevelt explores the qualities that made Lincoln extraordinary: his uncommon blend of moral courage and practical wisdom, his patience under pressure, his refusal to be hardened by hatred, and his ability to lead a divided nation toward renewal. The address is more than a commemoration; it is a stirring meditation on leadership, character, and the responsibilities of public service. Roosevelt also draws a timeless connection between Lincoln's era and his own, arguing that the same virtues needed to preserve the Union remain essential in meeting the challenges of modern life. Passionate, eloquent, and deeply admiring, this address captures both the spirit of Lincoln and the vision of a president who believed greatness must be joined to goodness. For readers interested in American history, political rhetoric, and the enduring legacy of Lincoln, this is a concise but unforgettable classic.
