A wax cylinder from 1949 carries a whisper no living person should be able to make: Juror Seven is still alive. Ask what happened to Clara Vale.

Forensic audio restorer Lena Hart follows the voice to Corvin County's newly restored courthouse, where archivist Miriam Glass is found murdered inside a sealed jury room. One juror has been cut from the official photograph. Every security feed is missing the same minute. And the victim's final note warns that the voice on the cylinder belongs to someone else.

The trail leads to an illegally substituted juror, a woman convicted by a verdict fixed before deliberations began, and a celebrated documentary filmmaker whose family legacy depends on history staying edited. As stolen evidence, forged identities, and hidden speaking tubes turn the courthouse into a machine for manufacturing witnesses, Lena must recover one unaltered confession before a live broadcast delivers a deadly final verdict.

In a case where every voice can be copied, the truth survives only in the scratches.
