Troublesome Gap truly exists as it is described in the
rst story in this collection. The characters are ctional
albeit the events of their lives are based in fact. A reader
of these stories is introduced to a lifestyle still existing in the
southern Appalachians. All of the other stories are also based
on genuine incidents, carefully altered or combined with other
occurrences to preserve the anonymous characters
