In L. Frank Baum's enchanted Land of Oz, imagination and danger walk hand in hand. Tip, a spirited boy trapped in hard labor under the suspicious witch Mombi in Gillikin country, survives by stealing moments of freedom—climbing trees, fishing, and plotting mischief against her control. His prank of building a scarecrow-like wooden man with a pumpkin head becomes something far stranger when Mombi uses the magical Powder of Life and Jack Pumpkinhead suddenly awakens, funny, solemn, and unforgettable. What begins as a joke turns into an escape when Tip flees Mombi's cruel plans and rescues Jack, taking the powder with him into the moonlit wilds. Along the way, Tip becomes Jack's creator and guide, introducing him to the wonders and history of Oz, from the Emerald City to Dorothy, the Wizard, the Scarecrow, and the Tin Woodman. When a saw-horse proves equally fit for enchantment, Tip tries the powder again, and another whimsical companion joins the journey. But in a world of shifting magic, broken limbs, and mysterious newcomers, adventure is never far from surprise. This edition has been fully restored with modern typesetting, custom cover design.
