Dr. Willa Cross is used to the silence of the dead. But the Jane Doe on her examination table is screaming a warning. With her fingerprints surgically erased and her face reconstructed, she is a ghost. The only clue to her identity is a piece of dissolvable paper hidden beneath her tongue, bearing a single word: ROOK.

Before Willa can report the finding, a massive blizzard knocks out the hospital's power, and a stranger claiming the name Evan Rook breaches the locked morgue. He's a former federal agent searching for a witness who vanished twelve years ago. He is dangerous, heavily guarded, and the only person who knows why the woman on the table was murdered.

They are not alone in the dark.

Professional killers have infiltrated the building to retrieve a deadly secret hidden inside the Jane Doe's body. Trapped in a powerless facility with the cold closing in, Willa must rely on the protective, ruthless stranger standing between her and the assassins. He failed to save his witness once. He refuses to fail again.
