Ted and Jan Martin are a pair of curly-haired whirlwinds, forever quarreling on Cherry Farm and keeping their mother busy. Their practical, affectionate Grandpa decides the cure is a grand outing to Star Island, where camping, curiosity, and family fun promise to turn mischief into adventure. But the island soon proves more than a picnic spot: a flickering blue light at dusk, a hidden cave in the woods, and signs that someone has been there before all hint at a deeper mystery. As the children explore with their friend Hal, they face muddy spills, stubborn Nicknack the goat, and the uneasy darkness of the cave while chasing rumors of tramps, gypsies, and strange blue stones. Janet's fears, Ted's bold ideas, and Trouble's comic antics keep the story lively, whether he is riding along on Janet's lap or trying to make a cake in his hat. When one of the blue rocks bursts into a blue flame with a strange smell, the island's secret becomes even more intriguing. Warm family humor, childhood ingenuity, and suspenseful discovery drive this playful outdoor adventure. This edition has been fully restored with modern typesetting, custom cover design.
